1. Class A uniforms MUST be worn to board the bus on Friday.
2. If you have any changes to your scouts medical condition or medications please let us know immediately
3. Electronics do not include cell phones.  Cell phones may be used at Jamboree
4. When your scout is not in a class A, he must be in a class B.  Class B is any scout shirt with a fleur de lis on it.   You were given two, any additional should be provided by you.
5. Don’t forget water bottles, utensils, extra socks, etc.

Sorry for the delay. AT&T just got the public wifi working.

 The weather has been hot and humid with occasionally rain. The Army has done a good job preparing the activity sites; and, tomorrow the bulk of the staff arrives to set things up. Everyone I’ve met is eager to provide a fun experience for the Scouts.

 When Baden-Powell was first approached about a Jamboree, he was not enthusiastic. However, after the first one, he realized the value and importance of Scouts from diverse areas getting together for fun and fellowship. This is a time to meet Scouts from all over the country and from around the world. Take advantage of it.

Don’t get trapped into spending all your time patch trading. A trade should be the result of meeting someone new, and trading a patch as a remembrance. There is a lot to do at the Jamboree, and if you spend all your time trading patches, you’ll miss the action.

There are eleven events at the Action Center; there are opportunities for working on unique merit badges; there are boating and scuba activities. If you look at a map, the boating areas a quite a distance from your camp, so start early if you are interested.

The buses have been practicing their routes, but no matter how many buses, there are not enough for 40,000 scouts. Plan on walking, carry water, and refill your water bottles whenever you can, even if they aren’t empty.

 I can’t emphasize enough the importance of drinking sufficient water. Too little water, and you’ll end up missing the fun.

Attending a Jamboree as a Scout is probably a once in a lifetime opportunity. Have fun, be safe.

Some additional points of clarification for our Jamboree trip:

1. Daypacks – scouts are encouraged to use the day packs issued for the trip, but can use a similar sized day pack if they already have one they prefer (i.e. a camelback type day pack). Remember this pack will be with them in the bus so the replacement pack must be about the same size as the one we issued.
2. Electronics – scouts may bring electronics on the bus.  However, those should be packed up when we arrive in Washington D.C. and stay packed until we leave.  If we find scouts are using them at Jamboree, we will confiscate them and give them back when we board the bus at the end of Jamboree.
3. Mess kits – we have the cooking equipment and plates.  Scouts should bring utensils and if they have room, I would suggest they bring a mess kit.  If they don’t have room, utensils will be sufficient.
4. Snacks on the bus – snacks will be allowed on the bus.  However, the rules governing their use are as follows:  items not allowed – caffeinated/energy drinks, candy/sugar snacks, and anything else that might inhibit scouts’ ability to sleep; clean-up will be scouts’ responsibility – if the bus is left in a mess, snacks will NOT be allowed for the remainder of the trip.  As a reminder, we will not be stopping for dinner en route to the Jamboree, so scouts should either eat before arriving at the council service center in La Grange, or bring something with them to eat on the bus.  If your scout is susceptible to motion sickness, please take all appropriate precautions before arriving at the service center.
5. Patch placement – insignia guide may be found here.  Please note, the insignia guides have not been updated to show the circular “ring” patch that goes around the purple world crest patch over the left pocket.  The nameplates will be distributed to the scouts to attach to their uniforms when we are on the bus leaving La Grange.

I’ve had several requests for information on the final troop site assignments, and to that end I’ve attached a copy of the subcamp map.

If you saw a similar map several months ago please note it’s changed.  We had to make some adjustments for more units, and in the process the commissioner staff wanted to be sure you all get a chance to make some new Scouting friends.

I hope this will help you all prepare for the trip east next week.

2010 National Scout Jamboree Mass Notification System

The 2010 National Scout Jamboree will utilize a mass notification system to alert those signed up of emergency situations.

The system is called IRIS, Immediate Response Information System, and will deliver alerts using several methods – phone, e-mail, SMS/text message, and pager.

E-mail alerts will come from alerts@irisalert.com, and phone messages will be sent from a 281 number.

To receive an alert, follow these steps:

Go to https://www.irisdispatch.com/.
Log in using “BSA” and your member ID with no spaces (your member ID is found on your BSA registration card; on your MyScouting account: select Profile and scroll to the bottom; your troop leader may have it; and your council registrar can look it up.) For example: BSA123456789.
The password is your last name (first letter uppercase, rest in lowercase letters).
The first column is your account information; some fields may be completed. Complete the other fields; you must also reset your password the first time you log in.
The second column is the contact information. Enter all information. If you decide you don’t want to be notified via one of the means, you can deselect it at the bottom of the first column (Do Not Contact Options).
Save the information.
Return to this site to change your information at any time.
Parents may also sign up to receive jamboree alerts, via this system – include the parent information with the attendee’s contact information.

Please note, this system is not designed to respond to your inquiries or distribute additional information. The Jamboree Web site (www.bsajamboree.org) will be utilized for further messages related to emergency situations

The duffle bags have arrived and will be distributed at our swim test on Sunday, July 18th.

Also please find attached the final Washington D.C. itinerary.  Troop 1031 and 1032 will be alternating between activities throughout the weekend.  I am going to try my best to update the blog, Facebook, and twitter by tweeting at jambo1032.  Go to jambo1032.wordpress.com for instructions on how to follow our progress.

We also have a pair of luggage tags for each participant.  They can be affixed to your duffle bag.

I’m also including a file with contact information for all Scouts in Troop 1032 as was requested at the last parents meeting.  I will not be posting this information for obvious Youth Protection reasons.

Troop Contact by Patrol

Jambo Scout Itinerary

Folks, for those of you who didn’t attend the parents meeting at our campout this past weekend, here are several items you should be aware of:

1. Shoulder and Troop patches were handed out.  Please contact Bruce Torgler if you did not receive your patches
2. We have collector’s patches available for sale.  These may be purchased for $2.50/patch.  Some of you indicated how many patches you wanted at the parents meeting.  If you would like patches and didn’t fill out the form, please fill out the following form.
3. Medical forms – we have all of your medical forms.  If you received a message from National saying that national is missing pages of your son’s medical let us know immediately.  For those of you who have already emailed me, you don’t need to let me know again.
4. Swim test is July 18th.  Information and permission slip are at jambo1032.wordpress.com.  We hope to have the duffle bags by then.

Greene Valley is located near the intersection of Rte. 53 and 75th St. in Woodridge, IL. The trailhead is on Greene Rd., just west of Rte. 53 on 75th St. Signs clearly mark the way from that intersection.
